A Coach You’ve Probably Never Heard of – Bob Beatty

Trinity High School in Louisville recently finished 14th in USA’s Final Top 25 Prep Poll. They had a 13-1 record and were crowned 6A State Champions. Trinity has now won 22 State Championships and amassed eight undefeated seasons. It is one of the most storied programs in the state.

The Shamrocks Head coach – Bob Beatty – has led them since 2000. Since that time, he has an overall 154-21 record with ten state championships. His 2011 team finished 14-0 and were ranked #1 in the country by both Sports Illustrated and Rivals.com. The 2011 team outscored their opponents by a 697-116 count and outgained the opposition by 3, 575 yards. Beatty’s team then went on to dominate the playoffs, winning five playoff games by 50 or more points.

Trinity won their first state title in 1968 and the school had a fifty game winning streak from 1988-1991.Two of their more heralded alums include Jeff and Brian Brohm, who both won Mr. Kentucky football titles, played at the University of Louisville, and later in the NFL. Under Beatty’s reign, the Shamrocks had a 30 game winning streak going into this past season. His teams from 2008-2011 averaged 39.9 points per game. He served as the Head Coach of the East Squad in the US Army All-American game in San Antonio which was played in January.

Every year, usually in early October, Trinity plays their most heated rival, St. Xavier, in a game that is now held at Papa John Stadium where the University of Louisville plays their home games. Attendance for the contest is usually between 30,000 and 35,000. Last November the two teams met in the Kentucky state playoffs

with Trinity winning, 15-14.

According to legendary Louisville writer Billy Reed, Beatty has to be considered as one of the best coaches in the history of Kentucky high school football. “He has to be considered one of the finest in The Commonwealth,” said Reed. “He’s hard-working, organized, and a skilled motivator.”
